In 2016, tribal gaming revenues in the Phoenix region continued its upward trend, which is evidence of the region’s growing interest in gaming and a positive indicator about the health of the region’s economy. The Phoenix region generated $2.9 billion in gaming revenues in 2016, which is an increase of 4.4% from 2015. Most notably, the revenues generated in 2016 marked a new all-time high in gaming revenues, surpassing revenues generated in 2007. • Grand opening of Apache Sky Casino marks the second casino for the San Carlos Apache Tribe. On April 1, 2017, the San Carlos Apache Tribe opened its new casino, Apache Sky Casino, a Class III gaming facility in Winkelman, Arizona. The casino boasts a 15,000 square-feet footprint, and offers over 300 slot machines, table games including blackjack and poker, a full-service bar and multiple food venues. The Apache Sky Casino is the second casino owned and operated by the San Carlos Apache Tribe. • The Santa Ana Star Casino is undergoing a $50 million expansion. The first tribal casino to operate in New Mexico is investing $50 million in an expansion project, including an attached hotel to its casino. Santa Ana Star Casino made the announcement, however it offered very few details about the project, other than the expansion will include an espresso bar and a casual dining steakhouse.
