In addition to responding to the changing fundraising landscape, in order to meet the growing and evolving community needs, organizations will also explore ways to increase their effectiveness and streamline operations such as: ∙ An anticipated rise in mergers and partnerships/collaborations between organizations striving towards the same mission and collective goal. ∙ Alignment of strategies and combining of resources, not just when organizations are in financial duress, will allow organizations to more successfully compete and thrive in the competitive not-for-profit environment.

∙ Movement away from a traditional organizational model where all functions are performed in-house to utilization of shared services for various functions. Any process that does not uniquely fulfill an organization’s mission, such as information technology, accounting, human resources and facilities, has the potential to be shared, resulting in increased efficiency, cost savings, employee retention, organizational stability and access to higher quality expertise and resources. The next decade will be an exciting time for not-for-profit organizations with many new changes on the horizon, but the importance of not-for-profit organizations and the impact on the community will remain consistent.
