The strong retail results over the past several months have most automotive industry experts believing that one of the worst downturns to ever hit the industry is in the rearview mirror. During January 2011, the industry experienced its greatest selling month since the “Cash for Clunkers” incentive 18 months ago. This optimism has caused several automakers and analysts to boost their original 2011 sales forecasts. Dealers are certainly enjoying the increased traffic in their showrooms; however, the increase in sales will force dealers to make many difficult decisions during the next several months.
