Background: RubinBrown recognizes that periodic breaks during working hours are necessary for the mental and physical health of team members and can reduce mistakes caused by fatigue, stress or lack of concentration. Policy: RubinBrown provides team members with lunch and work breaks during the course of each workday, as appropriate. Each team member is allowed a minimum of 30 minutes for a lunch break. Team members are not compensated during their lunch breaks and are required to track their time away for lunch and accurately reflect hours worked within the Time and Billing System. Procedure: The duration and time of team member lunch breaks is reviewed by the in-charge or Career Advocate with appropriate regard for the workload and client expectations. Team members will receive a break of ten minutes for every four hours worked. Time spent on breaks is compensated. Team members should not abuse their break privileges by prolonging lunch and break periods beyond the times specified by this policy, the in-charge, Career Advocate, Service Unit Leader, or Department Head. Abuse of lunch or breaks will subject a team member to disciplinary action up to and including termination. Breaks may not be used by non-exempt team members as an extra work hour to receive overtime or to leave early without the prior approval of the in-charge, Career Advocate, Service Unit Leader or Department Head. Additionally, a team member may not work through lunch or breaks and utilize them on a subsequent day.
