Background: This policy governs the publication of and commentary on social media by team members of RubinBrown LLP and its related companies, as well as its affiliation to Baker Tilly International. For the purposes of this policy, social media means any facility for online publication and commentary, including without limitation blogs, wiki's, social networking sites such as, but not limited to, Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube. This policy is in addition to and complements any existing or future policies regarding the use of technology, computers, email and the internet. The firm recognizes the value of social media communications and has created its own accounts on several social media sites. Use of social media sites by firm personnel is considered an extension of the firm and its brand, and includes certain responsibilities and risks. Such communications generally fall into two types: personal and business. Personal communications with family and friends allow users to connect and share differently than for business communications. Business communications allow for networking with clients and prospects, recruiting opportunities, and learning and sharing with other experts. Policy: RubinBrown encourages team members to utilize LinkedIn and X (Twitter), for business communications. In some cases blog sites can also be used, but must be approved by the Firm prior to use. If a team member feels there is a compelling reason for a business unit to create and maintain a blog, the Marketing Department can review, approve and, if appropriate, create/setup the accounts.. Whether you have identified yourself as a team member of RubinBrown or not on personal social media sites, please keep in mind online actions, just like offline actions, can reflect back on RubinBrown, so the firm encourages team members to always present themselves with integrity and avoid offensive behavior. It is the responsibility of each team member to protect his/her own reputation, as well as the Firm’s. If team members have a personal account(s) for the purpose of sharing personal updates, but also want to use X (Twitter) or Instagram for business reasons, team members must abide by all social media and team member policies. It is appropriate to use a RubinBrown email address when setting up a personal team member X (Twitter) or Instagram account for business use. Should team members choose to identify RubinBrown as their employer on personal networks and/or share business information on those networks, please use the Firm’s Core Values as a guideline for all information shared through personal networks. In no circumstances does the firm condone sharing of proprietary information through professional or personal social media networks. Please also see Policy Number 901: Confidentiality of Firm and Client Affairs Business Communications on Behalf the Firm: Publication and commentary on social media carries similar obligations to any other kind of publication and/or communication. All uses of social media must follow the same ethical standards that team members must otherwise follow as stated in the team member manual.
