The Northeast led the commercial gaming industry in revenue growth, producing a 7.1% increase in gaming revenues. The revenue growth was primarily due to expansion efforts in Maryland and New York. The growth in gaming will continue in the near term, as Massachusetts will be welcoming new casinos in both 2018 and 2019. • New casinos have a limited impact on neighboring jurisdictions. The revenue growth in the Northeast is attributed to the opening of four new casinos in New York plus Maryland’s MGM National Harbor opening in late 2016. While these new casinos adversely impacted competing casinos in New York and Maryland, they did not have a significant impact on casinos located in neighboring jurisdictions. In 2017, 72.7% of Northeast casinos located outside of New York and Maryland experienced revenue increases. which will determine the legality of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act.
