RubinBrown Gaming Stats 2013

PHOENIX REGION

In Arizona, 15 tribes operate 22 Class III casinos. Using state specific data from the Arizona Department of Gaming, Arizona tribal casinos generated $1.7 billion in gaming revenue during the state’s fiscal year 2011 (July 1 through June 30), representing an increase of 0.4% from 2010. While the increase was modest, it marked significant improvement from the 7.7% decline in fiscal year 2010. The recovery continued in fiscal year 2012 with tribes generating nearly $1.8 billion, an increase of 6.1% from the previous fiscal year. The increased gaming revenue can be attributed to the expansion of gaming within Arizona. In 2011, the Pascua Yaqui Tribe opened the Casino Del Sol, which has since become the first tribal casino to offer a free online gaming system. In the Phoenix area, the Gila River Indian Community is improving their Vee Quiva Casino & Hotel. The construction, which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2013, includes a new hotel and larger casino. Near Flagstaff, the Navajo Nation continues construction on their fourth casino, Twin Arrows Casino, a $175 million casino and hotel complex that is scheduled to open in the spring of 2013. In Colorado, the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe operate casinos on their reservation land in southwest Colorado. In March 2012, a feasibility study was completed for a project regarding the Ute Indian Tribe, located in northeastern Utah, developing an off-reservation casino in the town of Dinosaur, Colorado. While discussions continue about the project, it is in the early phases of a long process that will require approval from the both the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Colorado Governor’s office. Using state specific data from the New Mexico Gaming Control Board, New Mexico’s 14 tribes operating 23 casinos generated $710 million in gaming revenue during the state’s fiscal year 2011 (July 1 through June 30), representing an increase of 2.9% from 2010. In 2012 the revenue growth continued, as New Mexico experienced growth of 4.2%, generating $740 million in gaming revenue. Much of the 2012 increase can be attributed to the Navajo Nation opening its third casino, Northern Edge Navajo Casino, located outside Farmington in northwestern New Mexico. In southern Nevada, the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe and the Moapa Band of Paiutes operate two independent casinos, the largest of which is the Avi Resort & Casino, located at the Nevada, Arizona, and California border.
