well over $200 billion in additional housing resources, including an expansion of the Housing Credit. If Republicans retain control of the White House and/or Senate, with Democrats controlling the House, partisan gridlock will likely continue. Of the various divided government scenarios, a Trump White House, paired with a Democratic Senate and House, could yield some agreement around shared interests like infrastructure and economic stimulus. However, if Republicans retain the Senate, there is likely to be continued restraint on spending regardless of the Administration, but some affordable housing proposals may still be viable. For example, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has shown openness to working with Republican affordable housing champions on issues such as the Housing Credit rate. But a few facts remain clear, there is growing awareness of the need to take meaningful action on affordable housing, thoughtful legislative solutions are at the ready, and sustained advocacy and education from the affordable housing community has laid a strong foundation to make housing a key part of our nation’s recovery.
Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition (AHTCC)
Emily leads advocacy to support affordable rental housing financed using the Low- Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit). Prior to joining the AHTCC, she served as the Senior Director of Public Policy at Enterprise Community Partners, where she led policy and advocacy related to the Housing Credit and other affordable housing and community development issues.
