∙ Account reconciliations and bank reconciliations should be completed each month. ∙ A whistleblower hot line should be in place and communicated to employees in a very visible manner. ∙ A proper “tone at the top” should be maintained both locally and at the corporate level.

The following internal controls are a starting place to ensure you have a good system in place: ∙ Written policies and procedures should describe how all transactions should be recorded and who has responsibility for recording and approving the transaction. ∙ Segregation of duties should be evaluated and controls implemented to ensure there is a separation of appropriate functions.
